The exhibition “Solidarity as Resistance” by Mentor Berisha presents a cycle of recent works inspired by The Forgiveness of Blood Feuds to mark the 35th anniversary of the 1990 Blood Feud Reconciliation Campaign in Kosovo. This series of paintings reveals the role of that campaign and the mass gatherings as political and resistant subjects during one of the most sensitive and transformative periods in Kosovo’s history.
At the heart of these works stands the figure of an active, large-scale collective that becomes both witness to and carrier of the will for change. In Berisha’s works, civic solidarity appears through color, layering, and the motif of moving caravans, where participants are led by a profound desire for forgiveness and awareness, becoming part of a popular movement that challenges the old order of isolation and blood feuds.
Through an expressionist approach, the painter uses the spachtel technique and the alla prima style to create thick textures that resemble sculptures rising from the canvas surface—a process that gives the works emotional and material depth. The paintings depict groups of people stripped of individuality, transformed into a unifying symbol, a shared protagonist seeking stage and action.
Berisha does not place the masses in a defined architectural space but chooses open perspectives such as meadows, fields, and clearings, where the crowd disperses across the terrain during its journey. The layered lights and colors convey the tension of the moment, the dynamism of the action, and the shared vitality that emerges within them. This exhibition is not just a visual remembrance of the past but also an alternative form of exploration and reflection on it.
Solidariteti si Rezistencë 1 MAJ 2025 – Galeria e Qytetit – Gjilan
Ekspozita „Solidariteti si Rezistencë“ e piktorit Mentor Berisha sjell ciklin e punimeve të fundit të frymëzuar nga `Falja e Gjaqeve` në shenjë të përvjetorit të 35-të të Aksionit për Pajtimin e Gjaqeve gjatë vitit 1990 në Kosovë. Ky cikël pikturash shpalos rolin e këtij aksioni dhe të tubimeve masive si subjekte politike dhe rezistuese gjatë një prej periudhave më të ndjeshme dhe transformuese në historinë e Kosovës. Në qendër të këtyre punimeve qëndron figura e një kolektivi aktiv e me përmasa masive, i cili bëhet dëshmitar dhe bartës i vullnetit për ndryshim. Solidariteti qytetar, në veprat e Berishës, shfaqet përmes ngjyrave, shtresimeve dhe motivit të karvanëve në lëvizje, ku pjesëmarrësit udhëhiqen nga dëshira e thellë për falje dhe vetëdijesim, duke u bërë pjesë e një lëvizjeje popullore që sfidon rendin e vjetër të izolimit dhe gjakmarrjes. Përmes një qasjeje ekspresioniste, piktori përdor teknikën spachtel dhe stilin alla prima, për të krijuar tekstura të trasha që ngjajnë me skulptura të ngritura mbi sipërfaqen e kanavacës – një proces që u jep veprave thellësi emocionale dhe plastike. Pikturat paraqesin grupe njerëzish të zhveshur nga individualiteti, të cilët shndërrohen në një simbol unifikues, në një protagonist të përbashkët që kërkon skenë dhe veprim. Berisha nuk i vendos masat në një hapësirë të caktuar arkitektonike, por zgjedh perspektiva të hapura si: livadhe, fusha dhe lendina, ku turma shpërndahet në territor gjatë udhëtimit të saj. Dritat dhe ngjyrat e shtresuara përçojnë tensionin e çastit, dinamizmin e aksionit dhe gjallërinë e përbashkët që ngjizet në to. Kjo ekspozitë nuk është vetëm një kujtesë vizuale për të kaluarën, por edhe një formë alternative e eksplorimit dhe reflektimit mbi të.
